Deacons

The Deacon Shepherding Teams

The Church has up to 39 deacons. They serve three years and then rotate off for a year before they can be eligible for reelection. The deacons are primarily servant leaders of the Church. Along with the Church Council, Deacons may also assist in certain situations in approving policies. Along with the staff, the deacons are the spiritual leaders of the Church as well. To assist the staff in ministering to the Body of Believers at FBC, the deacons serve on ministry teams for a quarter and then rotate to another ministry area the next quarter. There are four deacon ministry teams:

♦  Hospital

♦  Birth and Bereavement

♦  Homebound

♦  Outreach and Assimilation

As an example of how these ministry teams serve, consider the following: If a loved one in your family was deceased, a deacon would visit the funeral home, another would attend the funeral, another would bring a food tray to either your home or to the Church fellowship hall for a post-funeral meal, and another would follow up in two weeks to check on you.

Deacon Prayer Ministry

In addition, a deacon prays during each worship service for the Lord's blessings upon the service. Those in the congregation have the opportunity to drop in prayer requests when the offering is taken, and then an usher takes these requests to the deacon who is praying for the service in a staff office.

Deacon Homebound Communion Ministry

Once a quarter the deacons provide a communion service for the Church's homebound. On the afternoon of the Sunday that the Church shares in communion, the deacons go to homes, nursing facilities, and to assisted living facilities to share communion with the homebound of our congregation.

Deacon Widow and Widowers Banquet

On a designated Sunday in December, the deacons serve the Church's widows, widowers, and single senior adults an afternoon meal in the Church fellowship hall. Tables are decorated, music is provided, and a speaker gives a message of encouragement.
